Have you ever wondered why God has chosen to work the way He does? I have to admit that I sometimes wonder. When you look at the Bible, you see that God called Abraham. It was nearly 400 years later before he gave the Law to Moses. That seems like a long time to me. And then it would be another thousand years before Jesus would show up. A thousand years! That seems like a long time. Why did God not send Jesus sooner? Why did God even give the Law? We have been talking about the insufficiency of the Law to save us. Then what was the purpose? These are not easy questions, but they are questions we should ask. Often we live in the “so what… we have Jesus now” mode. We don’t bother asking why. But Paul does not shy away from difficult questions. In our text this week, he asks the question, “Why the Law?” Without giving the entire sermon to you in this blog entry, the short of it is that the Law does serve a purpose. The Law is not opposed to God, it was given by God. The Law has a way of pointing us to the work of Jesus. On Sunday, we are going to explore these questions. I hope you will join us in worship as we delve into the why.
