How do we join together as a congregation when we come from such varied backgrounds, from different generations and with different priorities, political opinions and life circumstances? In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul offers us guidance about how to celebrate our differences, affirm each person’s gifts and come together to be the Body of Christ.

As we explore Paul’s words regarding sexuality, we struggle to articulate what this means. We, the church, are often seen in a “holier than you” posture of judgment and condemnation. Or we jump to the other extreme of easygoing tolerance. How might Paul’s letter to the similar culture of Corinth help us understand God’s design for our sexuality. 1 Corinthians 5:1–13; 6:9–20

In Acts 8, Luke relates the experience of Philip. Philip, being dispersed by the stoning of Stephen, travels to Samaria. He then follows an angel’s leading toward the Gaza highway. In both experiences, he finds the Spirit already at work. He simply obeys the promptings of the Spirit, bringing the gospel to unlikely people. Wade walks us through the story of Philip as we continue our study in the book of Acts. Acts 8

Luke tells four foundational stories beginning in the sixth chapter of Acts. The first story is of Stephen. While this story may seem tragic, God uses his martyrdom to spread the gospel beyond the borders of Israel. Wade describes the scene of Stephen before the religious leaders and considers his courage and strength. Filled by the power of the Spirit, Stephen proclaims the message of Jesus. Acts 6-7.

The story of Ananias and Sapphira is one most troubling stories in the New Testament. Ananias and Sapphira are two people who seem to be faithful at first appearance. Their intentions are exposed in a shocking fashion. How do we interact with a story of this nature? What does this text teach us about today’s church? Acts 5:1-15

We often idealize life in the early church. However, significant threats were a part of daily life in the first century church. In Acts 3-4, Peter and John are confronted by the religious leaders, warned to not speak in Jesus name. How will they respond? Will the early Christians be faithful? Acts 3-4.
