In this third sermon in our mission statement series, we consider the task of empowering one another in the faith. First Baptist Church Muncie exists to equip this body of believers to walk with Jesus. We do this by engaging Scripture, sharing our stories, praying together, prompting each other in spiritual disciplines, and discerning and using our spiritual gifts.

As we come to the second sermon in our mission statement series, we explore our calling to care for one another. We open the letter of 1 John; the elder John speaks from tremendous experience to the Christians of the first century. He calls them to the remarkable task of caring, loving one another. As we love one another we complete the work of Christ and reveal to the world God’s love for them. 1 John 4

As we begin a five-week series on our mission as a church, we consider the importance of gathering. A central part of our mission is our gathering together. But, our gathering is not just a social get-together. We are called together physically, to unite our hearts and minds, and to remind ourselves of who we are and who we are called to be as the people of God.

In Acts 8, Luke relates the experience of Philip. Philip, being dispersed by the stoning of Stephen, travels to Samaria. He then follows an angel’s leading toward the Gaza highway. In both experiences, he finds the Spirit already at work. He simply obeys the promptings of the Spirit, bringing the gospel to unlikely people. Wade walks us through the story of Philip as we continue our study in the book of Acts. Acts 8

On this Sunday following Easter, we begin our study in the book of Acts. When you consider reading a book, you pick it up and look over its dust jacket. You ask questions about who wrote it, what it is about, etc. Today, we take a look at the dust jacket for the book of Acts in this introduction sermon.

Jesus has a way of turning things upside down. The ones that we think are in are really out. The ones we think are out are really in. In Luke 18:9-14, Jesus tells the story of two men going to the temple to pray. Their prayers teach us much about what is required to be in with God.
