Do you wonder about prayer? Maybe you know that you are supposed to do it. Maybe you even give it a shot at times. But deep down inside, you wonder if it really matters?

Perhaps the disciples wondered also. But when they saw Jesus pray, they knew something was different. It was not the same stale prayer of the religious leaders. He somehow connected with God in a way that blew them away.

When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples (Luke 11:1 NIV)

This is the only time that the disciples request a teaching topic. They wanted to know how Jesus did it. They wanted to ‘get’ prayer like Jesus. You know the story… Jesus teaches them the Lord’s Prayer. We spent 8 weeks talking about this last spring. It would be impossible to cover the depth of this passage in a blog entry. However, Jesus reveals to them in these few sentences the posture of prayer, the manner in which we are to pray.
